LBC:
Reflections Of The Fashion From 2016

"Ship's Log, Supplemental Entry:
This week's topic is an interesting one:

"Lolita fashion morphs and grows every year with new and different trends and releases, how has it changed to you? Has this past year made you fall in love with the clothes and community even more? Let us know your feelings on Lolita fashion of 2016!"

Here is a summary of my thoughts on the subject:

"It changed!?!"

I'll be completely honest with you: I'm really not great at staying on top of trends in the fashion.  By the time I find out about something, it's already old news.  Like, circa 2013 old news.  From flower crowns to Fluevogs, I was super late to every single party.

Except maybe the big round glasses.  I was only fashionably late to that one.

And as for my thoughts on the changes in new releases, well let me put it to you this way:  Something Something Rosette came out again, and I skipped this year's version.

So what does 2016 look like from the perspective of a seriously out-of-touch lonelita?

Exactly like 2015.

What I can go into depth about are the particular trends (which are admittedly 1-3 years old already) that I feel I really started to get the hang of this year.

"A Little Bit Hungover" Makeup
This one is a fairly old trend by now.  I had originally skipped it, thinking the effect was too pink and cutesy.  Instead, I dabbled in more subtle trends like "fresh tears or glitter liner?"  But then mauve blush made the beauty blog rounds again, and so I decided to finally try the sick look with this vampier shade.  Success!  Paired with a dark lip stain, it creates that perfect "maybe I'm sick, maybe I'm a vampire" look.

Trying [failing] to be cool.

The Pentagram is the New Cross
This one is a welcome trend I am happily riding the crap out of.  The first upside-down-star design I can recall on a dress was admittedly 2014, but I feel it has fully taken it's place as the new cross.  And I love it.  Not simply because I feel much more personally in-line with its symbolism (if given the choice between a Freemasonry print and a Knights of Columbus print, I would choose the former), but because it offers some incredibly cool lacing options.

RHS also look pretty cool with star lacing, imo!

We Don't Wear Wigs [Anymore]
The debate is not old, but maybe 2016 can be the year the argument finally became a beaten dead horse?  Wigs are no longer expected.  There are times I feel they are appropriate, especially for me, considering the colors and lack of 1/3 volume, but it's been refreshing to no longer be in the minority at events.

It's also just more comfortable.

Miss Masculine
Boystyle sure got popular, didn't it?  Couldn't be happier about that, either!  A lot of my favorite lolitas have been wearing a lot of boystyle looks, which has been amazing inspo.  I hope to pick it up again soon and keep improving, because I love it!

Another wig-less one!

Dark, Desaturated, and Long
There seems to have been a shift in general in my circle towards darker looks, more desaturated colors (including the resurgence of the lovely shade gray!), and longer cuts.

Shades of black, and just below the knee.

And that's all I got!  I'll uh... try to pay closer attention, I guess?  Maybe...  Probably not...

Until next time!  Bear signing off!"

This frequency will remain open for response.
