Episode 1: An Old Commission

"Ship's Log, Stardate 93721.34
Before delving into new projects, I'd like to recap an old one.

I wanted to wear something special, and a little different (for me anyway) to the Anime Revolution 2015 Angelic Pretty Tea Party. I wore boystyle for the second time, and made a matching tricorn for the coordinate.

[To start, I ordered a black, floppy wool hat on amazon prime to use as a base.]

[My lace, ribbons, gimp trims, buttons, and chain are from Michael's and Joann's. The velvet roses and clip are from Bodyline.]

[I divided the hat into even sixths and marked the lines temporarily to keep the hat even. I hand-stitched the lace and trim around the brim. The sides are pinned up with "v" shaped, black velvet straps, that are stitched into the inside hatband.]

[I stitched the two roses into two of the corners, and tucked a plump ivory ostrich feather through the velvet straps, secured with a Bodyline barrette.]

[I wanted a sneaky feline hideaway to go with my Chantilly Queen Cat tights, so I pinned a black ribbon bow barrette inside the third corner, after embellishing it with thread whiskers and gold cat safety eyes.]

I'm really happy with it and was surprised at how it durable it turned out to be for one of my handicrafts. Not only did it survive the trip (and being sat upon by yours truly), but it's holding up well enough to be a long term accessory, and probably a favorite!

And finally, here it is worn with the matching ensemble

Blouse: Atelier Pierrot, Pants: Putumayo, Tights: Enchantilic Enchantilly, Shoes: Fluevogs with Putumayo boot clips, Coat: Infanta, Purse: from Taobao

This was a lot of fun to make, and I LOVE hats, so I will probably try others in the future. My next scheduled project, however, is more utilitarian in nature - an actually waterproof, storm-proof parasol.

Curious to hear of any other D.I.Y. headgear, tinfoil or otherwise, that others may be working on, and will leave this frequency open for response.

- Bear out!"
